Writing and reading philosophy

SOME OF OUR MEMBERS are professional philosophers, some are philosophy graduates and some, although having no qualifications in philosophy, share an enthusiasm for philosophical thinking. The writing of a article often helps a person to articulate a philosophical problem and begin to form arguments in response. In this section we welcome articles from any of our members and contributors. We will collect selected articles into occasional e-journals and inform members of journal development through our newsletters. We welcome articles from your pupils and students (if you have their permission).

If you would like to submit an article, please contact Steve Williams.

The Conscience of Huckleberry Finn
Link to an accessible but thought-provoking article by Jonathan Bennett on questions around 'bad morality', conscience and empathy. It's not suitable for classroom use, but it's a good example of philosophical skills at work.
