Would you prefer ...?
Introduction
When the children and parent/carers have got used to talking about good or bad choices and giving their reasons (see the Nursery Question Board item), I then introduce three choices using the 'would you prefer?' cards (attached below).
This time I present one of the question cards on the display board as before but put up three pieces of paper for the children to attach their name cards to. Each piece of paper has a drawing of one of the choice options.
Again, it is important ensure that your or the parents are asking for reasons and sharing ideas. Questions to ask might be:
- 'Why didn't you choose either of the other options?'
- 'Can you think of the reasons why you did choose your option?'
Although I have been using this as a parent/child thinking-together exercise, it can also be used as a short daily thinking exercise or as a longer enquiry activity.
