Selected resources for pupils aged 3-7

THIS COLLECTION of resources for children from three to seven will grow and change over time. The purpose of collections is to make your job easier by selecting resources for particular subjects and age ranges. We are particularly lucky to have Sara Stanley as one of our p4c.com contributors. She is an early-years specialist and a writer of books such as Sara Stanley 'But Why: Developing philosophical thinking in the classroom' (with Steve Bowkett), Network Continuum, and 'Creating Enquiry Minds', Pocket Pal.

  1. A nursery question board: Sara Stanley provides and activity to develop the philosophical skill of making a choice and giving a reason with children in nursery. A full range of downloadable reasources are provided.

  2. Would you prefer ...?: Sara Stanley introduces another activity for the 'nursery question board'. A full range of downloadable reasources are provided.

  3. Goodies and baddies in the nursery: Sara Stanley shows how children's spontaneous talk can lead to inquiry. When the teacher listens and observes, she finds much food for thought. A full range of downloadable reasources are provided.

  4. You choose: invovling parents in p4c: Sara Stanley shows how to create a take-home book to stimulate parents to think and talk together with their children. A full range of downloadable reasources are provided, including a sample letter for children to take home.

  5. Theming ideas from 'The Last Noo-Noo' by Jill Murphy: From her own experience, and with examples, Sara Stanley provides a very interesting method of getting to philosophical questions from the children's initial questions.

  6. The Important Book: Steve Williams introduces a book he has used successfully with children from 4 to 6 years old. He includes starter and follow-up activities.

  7. Claims and reasons: Steve Williams explains an activity to practice recognising opinions and giving reasons that could be done with 5 and 6 year olds.
